Newton Girls Soccer
Metro Boston Renegades Program

For the last several years, Newton Girls Soccer (NGS) has partnered with Mass Premier Soccer (MPS), to offer MPS’ MetroBoston Renegades or School of Excellence (SOE) program to NGS players seeking extra opportunities for skill development and high quality, professional training.

The program focuses primarily on player development, whilst also allowing players to practice and play with similarly talented and driven peers.

Over 100 players participated in programs at the U9, 10, 11, and 12 levels this year.  NGS and MPS have introduced Junior SOE (U8) program for 1st and 2nd graders.

The SOE has this summer restructured its program. It is now spilt into Academy and Elite. This will be kicking off for the first time in the fall 08 season.

SOE is an 8 week program, and 75 minute training sessions run in the fall, winter, and spring.  In the fall and spring seasons, the U10, 11, and 12 teams play 5 Sunday games against MPS SOE teams from other regions.  JSOE is a 6 week program, and training sessions run for 60 minutes each week.

Teams at all levels – JSOE/U8, U9, U10, U11, and U12 – will participate in the end of season Jamborees in the spring and fall. This is a fun way to end the season, with a series of round robin games at a central location.

All training sessions for the Metro-Boston teams take place in Newton.

The program is staffed by MPS professional coaches, all of whom have a minimum of a B-license. Players may be exposed to a variety of coaching styles throughout their SOE experience, which will only aid their individual development.

Why is the Metro-Boston Renegades or SOE Program Being Offered?

The Metro Boston Renegades program is being offered to provide a better alternative to club programs, which are often found by many players and parents to be inconvenient, focused more on winning than player development, and providing uneven coaching and competition. The Newton-based Renegades, or Metro-Boston SOE program, recognizes that some players who participate in NGS’ travel program want an additional development experience, supplemental to that they receive from their NGS team, but would like the convenience of training in Newton along with coordination between their NGS coach and Renegades/SOE coach. With a focus on player development, the Renegades or Metro-Boston SOE teams are an excellent feeder to Newton's high school programs.

Is the Metro-Boston Renegades or SOE Program for everyone?

No. NGS offers programs for a wide range of soccer interests and abilities. We will continue our commitment to providing top quality intramural and travel programs with many clinics and instructional opportunities. Many strong players on top teams have commitments to other activities, and participation is not mandatory or factored in to NGS team selection. Those who do play for the Renegades/SOE will have a strong commitment and dedication to the development of their soccer skills.

What is the difference between the Academy and Elite program?

The main difference between the two is the commitment level. If you have been chosen to compete in the Elite program then you will need to commit to all three seasons (fall/winter/spring). If you been chosen to compete in the Academy then you will commit to the fall and spring season only. To be chosen for the Elite program, we will be looking for players who have continued to have excelled in practices and in games.
