How can you stay involved with NGS during High School?

Spring Travel Program

The NGS high school program offers you the opportunity to play high-level, competitive soccer with the convenience of playing in your home town, with school and community friends, at an extremely affordable price, and with a schedule that allows you to pursue other important school activities and sports. Plus, like our School of Excellence program for younger ages, an optional, supplementary training program is being developed that will offer a more intensive, professionally-coached experience on an additional weekday for those high school players who choose to pay and play extra.

Over the years, NGS has offered players several competitive options within BAYS. It always depends on the number and skills of players who register. For example, in 2006 we had five high school teams – three Division 1 U18 or U16 teams and two Division 2 teams in U18 and U16. In previous years, we have also fielded a Division 3 high school team for players who want a more relaxed schedule and format. The teams each year depend on who signs up, so we hope all of you will register to play!

As with all our NGS Travel teams, team assignments for players are based upon feedback from your recent NGS and school coaches, as well as knowledge and observation of your play by the selection committee. One important element of that observation comes from our late November tryout. You will get notice of the tryout date when you register. It will be scheduled after the fall school soccer seasons ends and assuming November weather permits. Because of the limited number of teams, it may not be possible to assign every player to a team. NGS will try to place all players who register, but cannot guarantee each registrant a roster spot. However, the more who register, the better it will be.

BAYS high school matches are played on Sunday afternoons, beginning between 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm. The season usually begins on the 3rd Sunday in April, and continues for eight weeks, excluding the Memorial Day weekend. Most teams practice once per week, usually on Saturday in order to avoid conflicts with other High School activities.

We look forward to having you play with Newton Girls Soccer. Registration usually opens at the end of October or early November.  Tryouts, if they are held, are usually in early November.

Fall "Intramural" Program

During the fall season, NGS offers an in-town program that will play 7 v 7 or 8 v 8 soccer.  This program serves recreational soccer players as well as those who are playing on high school freshmen or junior varsity teams.  Details:

The emphasis is on fun and playing with friends, with the special benefits of being able to work on your individual skills.  The season normally culminates in a November tournament, during which all players traditionally receive a unique commemorative T-shirt.

Applications for this program will be accepted trough September 15 each Fall.  Registration is still open for this program at http://www.newtongirlssoccer.org/regis.  Select the Intramural High School program.
